King crabs are the primary shellfish species harvested from Alaska, Japan, Australia and Argentina. The largest specie of crab is king crab and can grow as large as 6 feet and weight over 10 pounds. Usually, king crabs are marketed in a single leg and claw pack graded by the number of legs per 10 pounds. The typical count would be 6/9, 9/12, 12/14, 14/17, 17/20, and are generally sold in 20 lb cartons.
The Snow Crab is also known as the Queen Crab because their legs are comparable but smaller than the King Crab. These crabs can measure 3 feet and weight up to 5 pounds. Snow crabs are normally marketed in sections or clusters. Sections are graded by weight from 5 to 8 ounces or 8 ounces up.
